Preparation strategies derived from RRB NTPC Syllabus

RRB (Railway Recruitment Board) plans to fill up 35208 vacancies across the non-technical popular categories (NTPC) in India. The posts include ticket clerk, goods guard, commercial apprentice cum typist, senior clerk, junior clerk, etc. And also, both graduates and undergraduates can apply for the posts based on the type of post requirements. RRB NTPC Syllabus is available on the official website of all the zonal RRBs.

RRB NTPC Exam Stages

There are five stages of the RRB. NTPC exam These are:

CBT 1

This is a completely computer-based test. It consists of 3 sections namely General Awareness, Reasoning and Aptitude and Mathematics. In addition, the total time duration is 90 minutes. The total marks are 100.

It is an elimination round The minimum qualification percentage is 40% for general and EWS, 30% for SC and OBC and also 25% for ST candidates. Negative marking of 1/3rd is there for every incorrect alternative option chosen.

CBT 2

This is also a computer-based elimination round. It comprises 3 sections which are Reasoning and Aptitude, Mathematics and General Awareness. The total marks in this section are 120. However, the time duration and qualification is the same as CBT 1. Negative marking of the same magnitude is applicable here as well. This is also an elimination round.

Typing Test

This test aims to gauge the typing test and accuracy of a candidate. 8 times the number of vacancies advertised will be called for this test. And also, this is an elimination round where candidates need to write 30 WPM in English and 25 WPM in Hindi.

Document Verification

This is to test the genuineness of a candidate and also whether there is any criminal record of the applicant. If found to be skeptical, his candidature may be rejected.

Medical Examination

Sometimes, the test is done after a candidate has joined in. However, it may also be a part of the selection process. Besides, there is a predefined standard that a candidate needs to meet in order to remain in the fray. Otherwise, he may be rejected which lies solely at the discretion of the RRB authority.

Important Topics in CBT 1 and CBT 2

As per RRB NTPC Syllabus, there are three sections that are very much the same in both the 2 rounds. In addition, this will help in preparing for the exam. The important topics are:

  • General Awareness: The important topics in this section are Ancient Indian Civilisation, Indian Geography, Culture and Constitution, Mughal Empire, Delhi Sultanate, Indian Economy, Basic Physics and Chemistry, Basic Indian Politics, Current Affairs, etc.
  • Mathematics: Some noteworthy topics in this section are Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio and Proportion, Mensuration, Time, Work and Distance, Speed and Distance, Average, etc.
  • Reasoning and Aptitude: The notable topics that candidates need to study are Coding and Decoding, Venn Diagram, Blood Relation, Puzzle, Syllogism, Analogy, etc.

Candidates must keep in mind these are just some of the topics which have higher weightage over the others. However, the thing that has to be kept in mind is that they should not overlook the other topics as this is a competitive exam.
