CPE Definition

A CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) is a telecommunications equipment used both indoors and outdoors to originate, route, or terminate a communication. The team can provide a combination of services, including data, voice, video, and a host of interactive multimedia applications.

The CPEs are terminal units which associate with telecommunications equipment, located on the subscriber’s or client’s side. And it connects to the communications channel of the provider or bearer of information.

Functions

Historically, this term refers to the equipment located at the end of the user’s telephone line and telephone company owns it. Today, however, virtually we can all any end-user equipment  Customer Premises Equipment and both the user and the supplier can be the owners.

Although both can own it, the CPE is usually the user’s and is located in the electrical connection of the same or directly in a plug. The data sent by the user transmits from the CPE to the HE or the Home Gateway.

The connection of CPE is to the computer through an Ethernet port, a hub/switch, or other means such as USB interfaces, etc. You can also use a telephone adapter (Tel Gateway) that allows the connection of an analog telephone through the mains.

The customer’s special equipment configurations vary between vendor and vendor and depend on customer needs. All configuration includes external microwave equipment and internal digital equipment capable of providing modulation, demodulation, control, and functionality of the client’s special equipment interface.

CPE Device

A Customer Premises Equipment device is telecommunications hardware located at both the home and business of a customer.

This equipment might include cable or satellite, digital subscriber line (DSL) And also other broadband Internet routers, telephone handsets, VoIP base stations. Or use of other customized hardware by a specific telecommunications service provider.

Generally, telecommunications provider owns CPE, though some customers do select to purchase routers or modems. Leasing or rental arrangements are also common, especially for broadband subscribers or cable television.

Renting or leasing CPE allows telecommunications companies to control more of the method. And protects customers against the cost of upgrades. And also uses technology to interact with their networks.
